Ship's Log

Saturday February 16th 2008,

We have been speaking with the boys, they are still in Ensenada.  The port captain closed yesterday and they could not check out to leave this morning ( you never leave on a Friday bad luck)  so hopefully they get checked out and can finally leave Ensenada.  At this point we still do not know whose airline tickets we will be changing if need be.  Richard, Johnny and Louie called and they were at the only hi rise in Ensenada having cocktails.  I assume.  The boat is provisioned, filled with water and fuel, beer and fishing gear.  Have fun boys and I will see you in Cabo.

Toni and I fly to Cabo on the 21st we are still not sure if they boys will be there when we arrive because of the delayed departure from Ensenada.  Richard had to work 1 more day and it cost us 3 days on the delivery.  I will take it out of Portrait's Hide some how.  So I spoke with Jeff of S/V Beatrix and web master of  the KP 44 web site and his computer broke down,  (I hope some day when I need things good karma will return)  so he is having one shipped to me to bring him ( in addition to the monitor that is on Sea Gnome).  Any how he has to take Kathy to the airport the same day Toni and I arrive so we may go stay on Beatrix in La Paz waiting for Sea Gnome to Arrive.

February 3rd, 2008 - we are sitting here  in the line at the boarder so I thought I would catch up the info.  we had the new air condition installed last week so we could depart for Ensenada on the 1st as planned.  The AC was installed and everything loaded aboard.  We look like a barge.

Randy decided he needed an out board he donated his to Davie's locker, so we have 3 outboard on the back of the boat, oh yeah he left his kayaks in Newport Beach so we have those aboard.  We have 2 hard bottom dinghies on the bow and 2 kayaks on the stanchions ( pictured above) , 2 cases of wine for Ann.

Now lets talk tools, the only thing we did not bring is the air compressor.  the aft head is so full of stuff you can not step in there.

We left Newport at 5:15 pm on Friday February 1st for the 1 of 3 legs for  PV  We departed in a very unceremonious departure,  My sister and her friend Danielle waved from the top to the Cannery restaurant.  No party , no send off  we snuck off like thieves in the night.   With a reef in the main and the cut down old head sail we motor sailed at an average  of 6 knots.  the wind picked up to an average of 12 kts apparent to around  San Diego and we had a wonderful sail averaging over 7 kts until the Coronado's, at which point the wind laid back down to about 5-6 kts.  So we motor sailed some more (the rest of the way) never making less than + 5 knots

We arrived in Ensenada at 2PM on Saturday the 2nd of February, tied up at Juanitos Sport Fishing dock and had a cocktail.   We went in town for lobster and ended up eating tacos at various stands.  Oh by the way it is Carnival this weekend and next week , so much for checking the boat in on Monday.  WE were so tired we went back to the boat and we were all asleep before sunset or there about.

Sunday morning Louie Arrived to pick us up.  We did some minor provisioning, moved the "stealable" items down below.  Re tied the boat , Juan Luis at Juanitos  will do our paper work for us and we will be back next weekend to put the new batteries
