Ship's Log

Well, Moving the boat across county was very interesting.  Many thanks to Mark for Flying cross country to help Richard "prep" the boat.  In other words take it apart.  Then Joe Shows up ( from what I hear it was good to have a 3rd hand) they removed the old stove and tossed it, taped every door, window, hatch, anything the moves down, so it would not come lose.  They had the boat prepped and the truck does not show up until Monday so they decide to go driving,  all they way from Fort Lauderdale to Key west, and from what I hear Joe snored the entire time.

Off to the boat yard on Monday morning and it is time to pull the stick and load her up.  So without to many hitches the Truck was on time and off she went for her travel across county.

The Dingy had to travel under "Sea Gnome", it is a hard bottom they could not smush it into the cabin.  At one point the boys to me " Not sure what we will do with the dingy" , so what do I hear " We are leaving the dingy".  Once they said that I must have called 10 times that day.  the Dingy has been re-named "The Arc of the Pacific".  After Sea Gnome was in route to CA.

Sea Gnome arrives in Newport Beach CA at approx 2 PM , I of have been working in San Jose and can not get here.  Again, Thank you Mark for picking me up at the airport while Richard deals with the boat unload.  There was another boat being unloaded when I arrived so Sea Gnome was still on the truck, Yeah I got to see some of the process of the transporting.  Well Nothing exciting expect putting the boat on stands in the yard in Newport.  One the sea cocks are checked and the new thru hull are installed we can put her in the water at move her to our new slip by the Blue Water Grill.

 September 5th 2005

Well we splashed the boat.  Todd at Bahia Marine, Quantum Sails in Long Beach did the rigging, so we could get her to the slip and finish putting her back together.  Great Job Todd.

Carlos brought back the port holes with the new gaskets in installed the the Lewmar ocean hatches.  A 19" square at the "fore" and "aft" cabins and a 24" square in the salon.     We have also install new 4" stainless cowl vents.

November 21, 2005 - Thanksgiving

Yesterday we took 4 military recruiters and there significant other out for an early thanksgiving.  There was no wind at all.  We motored over to the Newport pier, took them by the ever popular harbor seals,  laying on the channel marker.

Well we  got the new stove.  We have just installed a new Seaward Marine 3174 3 burner propane stove.  Just in time for Thanksgiving.  Normally we go to the island  (Catalina) for thanksgiving but Sea Gnome is not quite ready to cross the channel.

We have removed the long abandoned black iron tank and are having a new tank made.  the generator is sitting in the cockpit and the water heater is sitting on the dock.  So over to The American Legion is about as far as we want to go right now ( it is about a 5 minute motor to the legion) .  There is a link to the American Legion on the E mail / links page.  Or click on the burgee
